Snowmaking at Mount Snow
Well Mother Nature has not been kind to Mount Snow this year. Last weekend, Thanksgiving is usually the first big weekend of the season. Not this year. Yes people came up but not in the usual numbers. Initially we had 4 rental reservations, but 3 of those canceled when they heard that the mountain was not going to be open for skiing or riding.
The weekend did bless us with a little snow storm. I was out of town but driving back into town I looked up at the mountain and all the trails were white. What a great feeling! The mountain then took advantage of cold temperatures and pounded the mountain for a full day. Things were looking good until last night we had 10 hours of pouring rain and guess what? The trails are no longer white.
The mountain is aiming for opening top to bottom runs this weekend but if they can manage it, it will only be by Sunday.
So hold thumbs that they’ll make it for this weekend. I know they’ll get it done if it is at all possible. These guys know their snow. Keep track of their progress on their website or check backĀ here. I’ll be sure to post when they open.
They’ll definitely be open by Monday – great excuse for a midweek getaway? 2 bedroom Seasons rentals are still at early season prices of $175/night!
